Sophie Pentecost - Soprano
SOPHIE PENTECOST, born in 1986, lives in the city of Winchester, where she first started singing at the age of 13 as a Girl Chorister of Winchester Cathedral when they first started in 1998. This experience was the first mile-stone for Sophie, and probably the most important for her career to date, as it taught her how to use her voice with excellent tuition, and also how to sight-read to a high standard. As Sophie went into her final year within the girls choir she was honorably appointed the role of Deputy Head Chorister in 2001 before leaving in 2002 for further education.
Winchester Cathedral had set Sophie's heart on singing, so she gained a Music Scholarship to study Music and Theatre Studies at A level within Sherborne School for Girls. These two years held many privileged opportunities for her, one of which was performing Bach's "Jaucet Gott In Allen Launden" in Sherborne Abbey alongside famous trumpeter Chrispian Steele-Perkins. Another memorable performance in this Abbey came about in her final year at Sherborne, as she was asked to be the soloist with a small chamber orchestra for all four movements of Vivaldi's motet, "Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera", after which she received a standing ovation. This experience spurred Sophie's confidence and love for singing on and she saught professional advice from none other than her Classical idol Dame Emma Kirkby, who invited her to sing for her and gave her valuable feedback and vocal tips.
In 2004 Sophie left Sherborne after acheiving A levels in Music and Theatre Studies to go onto University. She attended the University of Chichester for 3 years, where she did a BA degree in Music and Instrumental & Vocal Teaching. Whilst doing this degree, Sophie had lots of work outside of University; she was singing for numerous amounts of weddings, concerts and funerals. These regular performance opportunities were never turned down by Sophie, as they helped her voice and performance confidence grow and get her that little bit closer to her goal. In 2007 she graduated with her BA degree.
September 2007 Sophie stayed on at Chichester to do a Masters degree in Music Performance. This degree was challenging for Sophie as it put her writing and performance skills to the test, but she loved every second of it and welcomed every challenge with an open mind and sheer determination - one of which was performing the role of Susanna in the University's cut version of Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro"
Sophie finished her Masters degree in 2008, culminating in her big Dissertation recital where she sung 40 minutes worth of big Opera Arias, two of which were "Un Bel Di" from Madame butterfly and "Ach, Ich Fuhls" from The Magic Flute, contrasting with a few related Musical Theatre pieces.
Since her Masters Sophie has been singing as much as possible - she was awarded the role of Yum-Yum in Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado" which was staged at Winchester's Theatre Royal in April 2009 for 1 week. A few months later she had the great experience of working wih top song-writer and producer Peter John Vetesse on a project he had started to be the Soprano on his new tracks - one of which can be heard under the demos section.
